Dr. Kumar Ramaswamy

Dr. Ramaswamy is a senior technology executive with experience
spanning telecom, broadcast and media industries. Kumar
advises
LionShare and as the CTO of Thomson’s $4 billion
Systems Division, Kumar led the converged architecture
development for platforms serving broadcast production
and common hardware and software client platforms serving
telecommunications, cable and satellite operators. Prior
to this, he managed worldwide research for Thomson (a 420
person research organization) and was instrumental in developing
several broadcast and mobile technology Thomson-branded
products in IPTV, DVB-H, US mobile broadcast - ATSC M/H
and Wireless LAN applications. Earlier, he established
two research laboratories for Thomson in Princeton and
Beijing, building world class advanced R&D teams. Kumar
has the distinction of leading the first team to demonstrate
a H.264 video solution transported and decoded in real-time
over a complete 3G UMTS infrastructure in 2002. He also
led the development and deployment of video applications
targeting the mobile market – push-VOD, automatic
object highlighting, automatically establishing region
of interest etc.. He was also the CTO and co-founder of
HomeFrontDSL (, a CLEC in Indiana, offering triple play
services. He architected and led the design of many of
the industry-leading communication ASICs for DirecTV, DOCSIS
cable modems and the US HDTV systems. He has 66 issued
US patents, over 100 pending patent applications and is
considered an expert in patent analysis and evaluation.
He was awarded a PhD from RPI, an MS in Mathematics (RPI),
MS in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt and Bachelors
Degree from National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India.
